Face Lift

Facelift or Rhytidectomy is one of the most frequently requested operations for people who desire a more youthful look. The procedure removes some of the skin around the eyes, mouth and jaw line that has lost its natural suppleness. The remaining skin becomes smoother and has far less lines and wrinkles that would otherwise make us appear old - leading to a rejuvenated and youthful appearance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at  if you cannot find an answer to your question.

The look and shape of the face changes with age. The skin becomes  looser and doesn't snap back as easily. Fat deposits decrease in some areas of the face and increase in others.

A face-lift can address:

  • Sagging appearance of the cheeks
  • Excess skin at the lower jawline
  • Deep skin folds from the sides of the nose to the corner of the mouth
  • Sagging skin and excess fat in the neck (if the procedure includes a neck lift)

Good candidates for facelifts include:

  • healthy individuals who don’t have medical conditions that can interfere with wound healing or recovery from surgery
  • those who don’t smoke or misuse substances
  • those who have realistic expectations of what the surgery entails

Facelifts may vary depending on your desired result.

Typically,  an incision is made in the hairline near the temples. The incision goes toward the front of the ear, down along the front of the earlobe, then back to the lower scalp behind the ears.

At this point fat and excess skin are removed or redistributed. The underlying muscle and connective tissue are redistributed and tightened.

If a neck lift is also going to be performed, the excess skin and fat will be removed.  The skin of the neck will be tightened and pulled up and back. This is  often done through an incision just under the chin.

The incisions often have dissolvable sutures or skin glue. In some cases, you might need to return to the surgeon to have stitches removed. The incisions are made in such a way that they blend with your hairline and facial structure. Normally a surgical drainage tube will be in place after surgery as well as bandages wrapping your face.

After the surgery, Miss Kelemen will likely prescribe pain medication. It’s common to have some pain or discomfort, along with swelling and bruising.

Miss Kelemen will give detailed instructions on when to remove any dressings or drains and when to make any follow-up appointments.

Once the swelling subsides, you’ll be able to see the difference in how you look. Your skin will feel tighter than you are used to and “feeling normal” may take several  months.

Allow for around 2 weeks before resuming normal daily activities. It is typically advised to wait for around 4 weeks before engaging in more strenuous activity such as exercise .

It is advised to do the following to help extend the results of your facelift:

  • Moisturize daily.
  • Protect your skin from the sun.
  • Get enough sleep.
  • Eat a healthy, balanced diet.
  • Drink plenty of water.
